GoFTP has all of the features you would expect from a standard FTP client. If you are familiar with FTP, simply log in and start transferring! To understand some of GoFTP's unique features and benefits, you can review the QuickStart Guide or the Settings Overview below.

QuickStart Guide
1. Connecting to an FTP server
To connect to an FTP server, enter the address of the server into the host field of the Connection Manager. If it is an SFTP or FTPS server, choose that option from the Protocol Tab. If a username / password is required, enter it in the corresponding fields. Once this information is entered, click OK.
2. Navigating on the server
Next you will see the mail GoFTP window. On the left will be your local files (blue background) and in the right section (pink background), the remote files and directories on your server. The current path is listed in the field on the top of each section. You can change the current folder by double-clicking a folder or by entering the path into the path field and pressing enter. To navigate to a parent folder, press the
'parent folder' button.
3. Transferring files
You have several options for initiating an upload or download. You can select the file or files to be transferred, and click the
Transfer Button, Right click and choose 'Transfer', or simply press 'F7'. It will be added to the transfer queue window and the transfer starts automatically.
You can also drag the files from one side and drop them on the other side.
To queue files so that they will be transferred later, after connecting press the
'Pause' button then drag and drop your files as needed. When ready to transfer press the
'Play' button to begin processing your transfers.
*Note - When you have transfers queued, you can also save this queue as a job file and run it again if needed.

Connection Manager
When you first open GoFTP, the Connection Manager dialog opens with options for connecting to an FTP server, configuring protocols, configuring directories and proxy settings.
My Sites Window

Use this window to create and organize FTP sites that you want to connect to frequently.
Copy - copies the selected site settings to a new profile.
Delete - deletes the selected site profile
New Folder - creates a new folder to help you organize your sites
New Site - creates a completely blank site profile |
Site Details Tab

The Site Details tab has the following configuration settings:
Protocol - Select the connection protocol for your FTP server. GoFTP supports FTP, SFTP and three types of FTPS.
Delete - deletes the selected site profile
Host - Enter the host name or ip address of the FTP server you are connecting to.
Port - enter the port of the server you are connecting to. This option is automatically populated when choosing the protocol. You can edit it as needed.
Anonymous Login - Check this option if you are logging in anonymously to an FTP server.
Username/Password/Account - If you are not logging in to an anonymous FTP server, you will need to enter this information here. |
Advanced Tab

The Advanced tab has the following configuration settings:
Timeout - Use this field to set a timeout for your connections. The number is in seconds.
Passive Transfers - With passive mode enabled, GoFTP establishes a connection to the server for transfers. Without passive mode, the FTP server establishes a connection to your computer for transfers.
Remote Path - Use this field to set a default remote path for the site's profile.
Local Path - Enter a default path for this site profile, or use the 'Browse' button.
Number of Connections.. - The number of concurrent connections to use for file transfers. The default is 5. |
Proxy Tab

The Proxy tab has the following configuration settings:
Proxy Type - If you use a proxy to connect to the internet, you can use this field to set the type of proxy you connect through.
Host - Enter the host name or ip address of the proxy you are connecting through.
Port - enter the port of the proxy you are connecting to.
Username/Password - Enter this information if needed to connect through the proxy server.

Menu Options:
File:
- Connect - Open the connection manager
- Disconnect - close the connection to the server
- Abort Operations - Stop all transfers and pause the queue
- Exit - exit the program
Actions:
- Rename - Renames the selected file or directory
- Delete - Deletes the selected file or directory
- View/Edit - Opens the default editor for the file type
- Permissions - Sets the permission level for the file or directory on the FTP server.
- Transfer - uploads/downloads the selected file(s)
- Select All - Selects all of the files in the current window
- Refresh - refreshes the current view
- Make Directory - creates a new folder or directory in the selected window
- Parent Folder - navigates to the directory level above the current directory
Queue:
- Abort All Operations - Stops all transfers
- Pause Queue - stops transfers after the current queue item is finished
- Start Queue - after placing jobs in queue, start processing the queue
- Save Queue - save the current jobs in the queue as a file for running later
- Load Queue - load a saved queue file
- Delete Selected Queue Job - deletes a specific job in the queue list
- Clear entire queue - clears all jobs currently in the queue list
Options:
- Connection View Log Mode - Using this menu option, you can toggle between reading 'per-thread' messages or 'combined thread' messages in the connections window.
- Settings - opens the settings dialog where you can configure other settings in GoFTP
- Update Version - use this option to check for he latest version of GoFTP. The current version is 2.1.85

Settings Window
This window is activated by choosing 'settings' from the 'options menu:
- Number of retries -the number of times GoFTP will attempt a connection before giving up
- Transfer Mode - You can set a default transfer mode (binary or ASCII), or choose automatic. File types listed will be transferred in ASCII mode when the transfer mode is set to 'automatic'.
- View/Edit Programs - Use this interface to specify programs you wish to use when the 'View/Edit' option is selected from the 'Actions' menu or from the right-click context menu. If no program is specified for a certain filetype, GoFTP will use the windows default viewer/editor.
Global Controls:
Connect - Open the connection manager
Disconnect - close the connection to the server
Refresh - refreshes the local and remote views
Save Job File - save the current jobs in the queue as a file
Open Job File - open a saved job file
Abort All - aborts all operations and pauses the queue
Pause Queue - pauses the queue, but finishes the current job
Process Queue - begins processing the files displayed in the queue
Local Files Window

- Address Bar - Shows the local path, or enter a local path to your files
Transfer - begins processing the files displayed in the queue
Local Control Buttons:
Parent Folder- begins processing the files displayed in the queue
Select all- Selects all of the files in the local files window
Refresh - refreshes the local files view
Make Directory- creates a new folder or directory
Rename - Renames the selected file or directory
Delete - deletes the selected file or directory
Edit/View - opens the file for editing
Remote Files Window

Status Window
The status window shows the current job status for each job in the queue. If GoFTP is
paused, each job is queued in this window until you place GoFTP in
'play' mode.
Connection Window
The connection window shows the interaction messages between GoFTP and your server. You can use this window to see the current status of your connection and note any error messages.
