I agree it's a slippery slope. I think we desperately need the changes that are being pushed by his administration, but I think it's a bit ridiculous that he's trying to find funding for this without raising taxes. Nobody likes taxes, but if it means vastly improved education and healthcare in this country, I'd happily pay them. I was hoping that Obama would minimize spending at least for a little while, so we could start paying back some of the money we owe to other nations, but that was just selfish optimism, and I didn't think he'd actually do it. Nevertheless, you're right. This is putting the economy on the line, and it's unhealthy. But accruing this amount of debt in the first place was avoidable, yet our warmongering former president made it happen anyway.

(i am an engineer). it does increase productivity. manufacturing productivity in america is at an all time high do to automation. the plant i work at employs 60% the number of people with an output of 6-8 times more than 20 years. subsidies can not create jobs but just redistribute. the government does not make money, it only prints it. 6. infrastructure, again it will not create jobs, just redistribute them. however, in the future it could improve productivity of the private sector and allow it to create jobs. 7. technology reaserch. the private sector already beat you to this one. i had a friend in college who could have earned 30k a year to do graduate research. (all private). most engineers get paid to go to grad school. 8. small buisness. this may have some effect, but remember sombody will have to pay that tax, if it is through larger coorperations it will slow their growth in an equal and oppisite direction. 9. labor. this is just talking points. it will not create jobs. raising the minumun wage results in fewer jobs. raising min. wage with higher gas prices (jimmy carter) will cause double didget inflation, requiring higher interest rates. 10. banking. this will not create jobs. let me explain. regulation can only means fewer people are getting the services they want. there will be fewer loans for people when they need them. 11. this is the funnyiest one. work and family balance is good. i am in favor of some of it. it will hurt the economy. ask france what reducing to a 32 hour work week for 40 hours pay did to their unemployment! the government can only redistibute jobs, not create jobs. (before someone bring up the new deal look at unemployment in 32-33 and 37-38 about the same, gdp did not return until we started selling weapons to europe.)

I don't think you are supporting Obama anyway so why even ask. we had 8 years of supply side economics or trickle down economics. so when do we all start to get ahead ? I have been working more and longer hours and every thing has gone up to the point that we are falling behind. I am looking to become a commercial airline pilot, but i do not have the funds required to cover the training costs. i want to avoid getting a loan from the bank because of the high interest rates. i have looked almost everywhere on the internet looking for a commercial airline that offers a pilot sponsorship that pays for all the training and in return i work for them for a certain amount of years, slowly paying them back. i do know that these sponsorships exist and a lot of airlines have stopped them recently, but there are some airlines that still do them. which ones do? and how do i apply? are there any pilot training companies that offer a similar sponsorship? if so which ones? and gow do i apply?! i do not mind being based in another country if required for the training. i am 27 years of age,so i beleive this is the right time for me to apply. i hope that you can give me some good advice and point me in the right direction for becoming a commercial airline pilot. thanks games

At just 18 there are no airlines that would even touch you for an apprentice program... most of which have been dropped. The last one I know of was SABENA AIRLINES, the Belgian National Airlines... but you would have to be fluent in French or Flemish in addition to English for them to touch you in 10 years or so. You best bet is to do it the way almost EVERY OTHER pilot has done it... you PAY to get your private license... then you work to get your Instructor's license and then you build up hours towards your ATP. It costs about $50,000 to get an ATP. You can also try joining the Air Force, but without at least an Associates Degree... they won't touch you either.
