Ok, i know this is a lot more complicated than averages, etc. i'm not trying to make a poverty discussion out of this. just a bit of phisiological curiosity. i read an article about how elephants eat 125-175 pounds of food a day, and i was wondering how much i eat (or people eat). anyone know where to find this information? for once, the google doesn't seem to know the answers for me.

about 1800 but most people eat more or less nif you eat less than 1000 calouries a day it can be unhealthy and more it also can that over 2000

I am asking because i would like to roughly calculate how many calories i am burning, so if i go for an hour run and eat food i would like to know where i stand when it comes to all calories burnt and all calories consumed during the day.... thanks

Ok, first you need to calculate your BMR. Google "BMR calculator" and input your age and weight as it asks. Then go to this website and click on "calories burned calculator" http://www.healthstatus.com/calculators.html Then add the two totals and you'll know :) the typical person burns between 1400 and 1800 calories a day just to support basic body functions. When you add exercise to that, it can go as high as 3000 depending on how active you are. Mine for example is 2300 a day because I go to the gym every day. But it varies according to age, weight and gender. Good luck

I ahvent eaten all day today in an attempt to loose weight all i ate is a satsuma btu im not goign to eat at all anymore i am also on diet pills that i bought from holland barratt. i just wodnered how long the average human body can last for without food. also how much weight roughly will i loose? thank you :)

i think its 28 days....but water is a must after 28 days you'll die, then the weightloss will be rapid ...that is the WORST and MOST UNHEALTHY WAY to lose weight . 2LBS a week is healthy

I'm currently fasting but i don't know exactly how long. as i thought about fasting just a little question popped into my head out of curiosity. how long can the average human last without food or drink? i believe for eating, its about 30 days and for drinking its 3 days. i'm probably wrong and i need a little clarification. for religious purposes. i'm fasting for religious purposes..

After so long without food, your body will go into standby and it will shut down many unnecessary functions in order to conserve as much energy as possible. So: Drink = 5-10 days Food = 20-40 days (This includes the muscle-eating process. For your health I would recommend going no longer than 2 weeks without food.)

I am addicted to fast food, there is no point in asking "if" i am. but i am trying to figure out why and/or what is the psychological impact of getting fast-food or maybe are there chemicals that are in the products that make them addictive. i feel like a puppy that craves human food and can't eat dog food anymore. and the quantity doesn't even matter any more, i could eat one small junior hamburger and i am satisfied but...it is the craving of that hamburger is strange. i could eat fruits and vegetables all day but something in me wants some kind of food from the store. also, i consider anything that isn't home-cooked, "fast" food. so i avoid some of the bad, bad places like mcds. ideally, i know it isn't healthy, i read all the manuals, so if you respond i wouldn't hearing about how to stop the addiction as opposed the ill effects of the food. in terms of history: this has been going on mostly since working and in college: 5-7 years. on average, at least 6 times a week.

Food addiction is very common. For women, it's usually sugar and carbohydrates and for men, it's usually fats and salt. You can tell me how unhealthy chocolate is but that didn't stop me eating 3 chocolate bars a day up until three years ago!. ;) If you eat a specific type of food often enough over a long enough period, your body develops a "dependence" on it and if you don't give it that food, it will "crave" it. The treatment for food addiction is the same as for alcohol and drugs (but a bit more complex) - total abstinence. You need to identify the "problem foods" and eliminate them from your diet. I am a food addict myself and there is a recovery group for us called OA (Overeaters Anonymous). Our definition of "abstinence" is "not eating compulsively" which basically means not eating foods that we know are a problem for us. When we think about giving up a "trigger food", we don't think of "never eating it again" but rather "not eating it TODAY" or maybe even "not eating it within the next 10 minutes". Cravings are not much fun but they don't last forever. I told an recovering alcoholic who came to our meeting: "With drugs, alcohol and cigarettes, you can lock your monster in the cage, toss the key and walk away. With food, you have to walk your monster three times a day."
