Looking for fun adventures, places to go, things to see, must do's when going to belize, etc..... thanks a lot!

Hey, I'm from Belize and there's a lot to do down here. Cave tubing, zip-lining, horseback riding, snorkeling, diving, para sailing, hiking, if you want you can rent a catamaran and sail for the weekend. The islands out here are beautiful so you have to go there. Shark Ray Alley, Hol Chan Marine Reserve and The Great Blue Hole are very common snorkeling or diving spots, some of my favorite places. We also have a lot of Maya ruins if you like more of the climbing scene. If you're not planning to stay in Belize City, Placencia is a really nice place to stay if you find the right hotel. Overall i suggest the islands as your main destination.

The Lamanai ruins are Mayan, but I doubt if very many - if any - Belizians still practice that indigenous religiion. While Belize officially does not have a "state" religion and the constitution provides for freedom of religion, the majority of the population is Christian, mainly Catholic with other denominations also represented.

If you want a repeat of the middle ages, then yes, we NEED a monarchy. Without a monarchy it is harder to wage war and oppress the common man.

I am takeing over an existing guesthouse in belize. my game plan is to move down there and run the guesthouse and improve and add services, this includes: serving dinner to guests, developing 2 and 3 day tours, web site improvements and marketing, small retail itiems at guesthouse,and much more. im looking for the right person or people to help me make this dream come true. i have lived in belize off and on for the last three years. tourism is booming there and it is still growing. our tours would include mayian ruin trips, fly,and sport fishing out in the cayes, snorkeling,jungle treks, bird watching, zoo trips, ect... any body out there interested in hearing more? let me know how to get in touch with you thanks.

Hey, im 18 years old at the time and am planning on going to medical school in about 3 years, and i would really want to go/live in belizze and i know that they have medical schools there even if you plan on returning back to u.s. to practice medicine. and i am a permanent resident of u.s. but am a citizen of a country in europe. the questions... 1. after completing medical school there, can i stay in belizze and work there as a doctor for the rest of my life..or for the next couple of years? or do i have to come back to u.s.? 2. what kind of lifestyle do doctors in belizze have? do they earm good money and have good repectable high class status? what are the conditions of the hospitals/private practices? 3.what kind of people ethnically/phenotipically live in belize? in the major cities or the vilages? 4. who does belizze belong to? what happens if u.s. goes to war and has a serious crisis or something...would that affect belizze in any bad way? its not spld "belizze

Reading your question, I wonder how much you know about Belize. It is a poor country, and despite the wonderful places to vacation, most "rich" people find it too much for them. There's little hot water (so no hot showers), it's always 80+ degrees, and the bugs will drive you mad if you're not used to them. If you still wanna go there, okay. They could use you there. Before med school, you could come through several missionary groups and volunteer abroad programs. You could be working at a clinic or help build a school. These programs look great on your med school applications! As far as the doctors- many of the doctors working are "semi-retired" from the States who spend their time volunteering at clinics and sipping drinks on the beach (pretty nice, huh?). They made their money though in the States. Belize cannot afford to give anyone a high salary, even if the doctors are paid well, they are paid well by Belize standards. Sorry for the rant. Quick answers for your q's: 1) You need to check with the AMA on rules for licensure. Even if you can practice with a Belize degree, you might find it hard to get a job. 2) I mentioned this already. 3) Most people in Belize are either white, Hispanic (with or without any mix of smaller ethnic group), Garinagu, Mayan, or Chinese. English in the official language but most people speak Spanish (hint: take Spanish. Also looks good on applications). 4)Belize is idependent. They were part of the British empire until 1983. Belize is "friends" with the U.S. and should a war break out in Latin America or the Carribean, I don't foresee major problems getting out if need be.

I'm interested in finding out what kind of businesses belize needs. i am planning a trip there and would like some ideas from others that live, have lived, or even have visited on business prospects. i'm not old enough to qualify for the retirement program, but i'm considering moving there and would like to provide a good service for the people and enjoy a more laid-back lifestyle for myself. what kind of business does belize need? thanks in advance for your input. god bless!

i loved Belize hmm i stayed at a nice hostel type place in Belize city. they all speak english that was nice. hmm i would say a nice B-n-B, something water related, or i stayed in the wild life reserve out side of the city & i tried to walk in the forest to see frogs, no luck so if your good in that dense forest, a guide who could find wild life would be good. or perhaps a fusion resturant. i went with a smitsoanian cruise & one thing i really liked was that they made allot of effort to find local artists,muscians, even a drum maker for us to experiance. so if your gonna do tours than keep that in mind its best to find stuff off the beaten path people like to experiance unique aspects of an area.
