It would depend on a lot of things, the clarity and color of course and somewhat also the gold involved...the better the clarity and color the higher the price...for example I work at a pawn shop...we have a 2.75 (round)carat ring appraised at $28,000 by a jewelery store that someone sold and we are asking $12,000...we have also a 3 carat (round) that is less, because the color is slightly darker...If a diamond is cut properly or not can affect the brillance(sparkle) of a diamond...also different cuts can make a difference, ex: pear, marquis, princess. The bigger a diamond is the harder it is going to be to find one with decent clarity and color, also diamonds can also be laser treated to remove inclusions, and this also affects pricing.

I had a ring that I was able to sell to the jeweler for about 25% of the purchase price. From my understanding, that's better than what pawn shops will give you. Ask locally - it was a small jewelry store in my area that bought mine. I don't have any experience with good jewelry on eBay, but I do know I would never buy a nice piece of jewelry without seeing it in person, so I would suspect you're not going to get a lot of hits there. :(

The value of a diamond is calculated on the basis of 4 C’s- cut, clarity, color and carat weight. So it is better to take it to a professional jeweler who will check these 4 qualities and evaluate the cost of your diamond. Also the market price of diamond is more than that of gold. So chances of getting a better deal is much more.

My sister is getting divorced and she has a 2 carat diamond ring that she'd like to sell to help her get on her feet. i'm sure she won't get anything close to what it's worth if she goes to a pawn shop. i think jewelry stores only take them if you are buying something bigger... does anyone know of any other options? thanks for your help! she's letting him keep the house they paid for together and not asking for any money on that. which is worth much more than the ring, so she's not cheating him out of anything.

Certain jewelry shops will do. Ebay is good. There is a good chance she can get the value of the ring back using ebay and even make a small profit. You can also try the new york diamond exchange if you live in the area as well.

Scenario......... you find a ring box with a 1 carat round cut diamond ring in a parking lot 2 days before valentines day, a reciept is under the thing that holds the ring upright. reciept has no charge card info or name and says cash and the 1,299 price for the ring, says store name at top of the reciept and store is in an upscale city, but no info on who it was sold to..... what do you do with the ring ???????

My husband and i were looking into buying me a new wedding ring within the next few years (since we weren't making a lot of money four years ago when we got married, and he's wanted to buy me a better ring ever since). the other day we found a beautiful 2 carat solitaire diamond ring in a jewelry store, and the manager told us it was $4,999 which seemed like a decent price for this particular grade, cut and class of diamond. but after about an hour of discussing this ring she realized that the price was really $9,999 and that she had misread it. so she told us that since she had made the mistake, that she would sell the ring for $4,999. we were stunned and figured we were getting ripped off at first. but this particular store is a pretty popular well-known store and they have a 100 day no questions asked return policy. so we bought it and then went to get it appraised by a local independent gemologist. well...it appraised for $12,000! so now we have to make a decision -- we can either re-sell it to a different jeweler and make about $4-$6000 profit...or we can keep it and count it as a great deal that we got a beautiful 2 carat ring for $4,999 that was appraised for $12,000. what would you guys do??? i'm open to any suggestions since i am so conflicted. i would love to have this ring for life, and it is sooooo gorgeous, and i can picture showing it off to friends and family. i know i can always get another ring later, but i am sure i won't get as good of a deal as this one. on the other hand i have some minor household bills ($3,000 in student loans, and a $1,500 credit card) that the profit margin could easily pay off if i sold it. decisions decisions :)))

From a disassociated perspective, I vote for selling it. Discounts aren't real. The only thing that matters is that you paid five-thousand for it, so don't fall into a trap of thinking that you have more than you paid for. Additionally. it could be a problem trying to get the full $12,000 from a jeweler, since they'd probably only buy it for six or seven. If you could though, GREAT! Either pay off your loans (does $3000 and $1500 include the interest that you wouldn't have to pay in the future if you paid off now?) or turn around and find a $24,000 ring for half off. Then think of the compliments you would get. ;) If you were a friend of mine though, I'd say keep it just because I'm jealous and I wish something like that would happen to me. Though, as "the Jones'" have taught us, Jealousy doesn't tend to be sound financial advice.

I have a wedding ring that i am trying to sell because i am no longer married. it is 2 carats and the downside is that i dont have any of the paperwork for it. i have tried ebay and online sites but would rather find a place i can actually go to and sell and get the money at one time. i live in virginia. the pawn shops have been no such luck either

Why don't you go to a jeweler and get it appraised so you can have some proof of what it's worth and then try again on eBay. People are more willing to buy when they know what they're purchasing is real.
