Pimples: For your pimples, a little bit of toothpaste on them can actually help a lot, but it has to be in paste form; not gel. Toothpaste is a great home remedy, you already have some, and it's more effective than other products that I've tried... If you insist on getting a product to treat pimples, try using Burt's Bees Herbal Blemish Stick. I've had a few blemishes before, and this gets rid of them in about a day or two, although it might take a little longer if your pimples have puss, and it's available in many convenient stores.
Blackheads: Blackheads are a little difficult to get rid of;
but you can use Biore Ultra Deep Cleansing Strips, which will remove whatever's on the top. All you do is wet your nose and place the strip on it for about 5 minutes; it's kind of like you're waxing your blackheads off. I've heard that it's good, and it's available in many convenient stores, but I've never tried it, and it's limited to the nose. A product that I use that's pretty similar is called Sekisho Mask White by Sekkisei, which is a peel-off mask. You can apply this all over your face, and once it dries, you peel it right off, and you can remove the surface blackheads, reduce the appearance of your pores, and even
skin tone (I have lots of freckles and it helps). It also removes the dead
skin cells, so it can help prevent more blackheads if you use it twice a week. The only problem with this product is that it is not too common to find it in stores (at least where I live), but you can buy it online (beauty.com or Bath and Body Works). If you want to get rid of the deeper blackheads, you can use Clean and Clear's Blackhead Clearing Scrub, which contains salycic acid, which is the main active ingredient in
skin clearing products. The product is not too bad, and it does reduce the amounts of blackheads, but again, really
deep blackheads are hard to clear out without squeezing. The Blackhead Clearing Scrub can be found in convenient stores, too. If you want something else, just make sure that the product has salycic acid in it since it is a
deep exfoliator, and it'll most likely clean out those blackheads (I talked to my dermatologist about this, since I have keratosis pilaris, which is an overbuild of dead
skin, and it cleans up excess dead
skin; the main cause of blackheads).
Pores: You can't really shrink pores; they're hereditary. If you have naturally greasy
skin, you'll have large pores. If you have really dry
skin, your pores will be smaller. Even if you can't shrink pores, though, you can clear the dead
skin off of them to make them less noticeable. Once you clean your blackheads, they should dramatically decrease in appearance. If you have noticeable pores, again, it's probably because you have greasy
skin. If you want to remove the oil from your
skin, use a toner. A toner that I've used is is Shiseido's White Lucent Brightening Refining Softener, which you can get in light or enriched; if your skin's oily, you use light, and if your skin's dry, you get enriched. It does a great job in reducing the appearance of pores, and since the amounts of oil in your
skin is reduced, your
skin will be able to absorb moisturizers better. Another toner that I really like is Sekkisei's Sekisho Clear Lotion, which does just the same as Shiseido, but is a little cheaper. Again, you have to order Sekkisei off of the internet, but you can get Shiseido in a department store, like Dillard's. If you're not interested in toners, you can also use polishing scrubs, which have really tiny beads that gets all of the dead
skin out of pores. A polishing scrub that I use is Clean and Clear's Daily Pore Cleanser. Again, you can get these in convenient stores, and if you sign up for their e-mails online, they'll give you $2 coupons off any item, which can be printed multiple times to use.
Everything: There's not really a product that attacks all three problems. Clinique is the company that is credited with creating the 3-step system that many companies use, and it's proven that 3-step systems work more efficiently than just using one product. But, if you want to reduce (not treat) the risk of having pimples, blackheads, and pores all in one shot, the best thing that I can suggest you to do is mircodermabrasion. Microdermabrasion is the process of removing dead
skin cells from the surface by using aluminum-oxide crystals. I've never tried a microdermabrasion scrub for the face before, because it's very expensive, and they can leave very fine microcuts on your
skin, which can cause infections, although it's rare. Instead, a great alternative to this would be to use a manual face brush, and you can find those in convenient stores, too. You can also use a Clarisonic brush, which is more effective than a manual face brush, but it's really expensive (if you want to try it, though, you can walk into a department store or Sephora and go to the Clarisonic booth, and they'll let you try it out). I don't have one, but I have tried it, and it's really good. The thing that I have is a microexfoliation cloth, which is said to be as effective as an aluminum-oxide scrub. It's more effective than a manual cleaning brush, too, and it's cheaper than a Clarisonic. What you do with it is you dampen the cloth, squeeze some of your favorite cleaner into it, work it to a lather, and wipe your face in circular motions. You have to order this online, though, but it's a really good investment, because you'll get rid of the dead
skin cells; combine that with your favorite cleanser and you'll remove excess oil, which means it'll reduce the amount of pimples and blackheads over time, and if you do still accumulate some, they won't become
deep. It'll also refine your pores, so they'll appear smoother.
Overall, if you don't want to spend too much money on products, I'd suggest you to use toothpaste to treat pimples, and get a microexfoliation cloth paired up with your favorite face cleaner (mine is Sekkisei's Sekisho Cool Cleansing Gel) to reduce the appearance of pores and blackheads, and to overall reduce the amount of future build up of both pimples and blackheads. After that, follow with an oil-free moisturizer (my
skin is dry, so I have to use ones with oil in it) so your
skin doesn't dry up, which can cause the sebaceous glands in your face to excrete even more oil than what you started with. This is exactly what I do, except that I use Burt's Bees Herbal Blemish stick instead of toothpaste. This routine works very well with me, and the other products just kind of sit on my dresser (I'm too lazy to use all of those things EVERY day). I only have to use the other products on special occasions, or when I get the occasional breakouts from forgetting to clean my face every day due to stressful situations (I'm a high school student, and you know how things get). I have provided links to the products that I have listed in my sources section. The ones that you can buy in convenient or department stores, I have directed you to the company website. For products that are only found on the internet, I have directed you to the websites that I purchase them through.
Good luck on your graduation, and I hope this helps!!
Lots of stuff, huh? =P
