Is there a square metre price, and is this for the whole build or is it per floor level.

Contractors can price constuction by the square meter or foot, but that should be for estimating purposes only. Square meter or foot costs can fluctuate a lot depending on the level of finish and type of space being constructed. To get the best price they should do quantity take-offs on all of the materials needed to do the job. As far as the whole build or per floor level is concerned, it would be per floor level to get to the whole build number.

Hello... curious to find out what a reasonable square meterage built would be for a brickie laying breeze block in a single 8 hour shift with a labourer at hand to assist as the brickie requires? i ask because i have been given a price of £19.50 (ex.vat) per square meter for a brickie, and £100 (ex.vat) per day for his labourer. thus for me to roughly work out the cost of the labourer i need to know what meterage he might reasonably be expected to achieve in a shift! thanks for any answers/comments.

Tough question! As an ex brickie you have me confused because I don't know what is being built. We can throw up bricks in a straight line like lightening if the corners are built already. However you have been quoted by the metre so the calculation is as follows: 1sq m = 60 standard bricks 1sq m = 10 blocks (approx) 10 sq m per day is possible so you will pay 195 + 100 Most brickies will work for a flat rate of £170 a day so the quote is reasonable enough but I would pay the flat rate if I were you. The guy might be very quick which could result in you being out of pocket!

I'm about to decorate my bedroom, i was torn between choosing chocolate and duck egg blue or chocolate and green. i went into a wallpaper shop and instantly fell in love with this beautiful chocolate brown wallpaper with simple green floral pattern for a feature wall and bought it, along with a lovely textured, suede effect cream coluoured paper for the other walls. the only thing is now i'm struggling with finding curtains and cussions to match the brown and green paper. they had the right fabric in that shop but it was really expensive, like £30 per square meter. have you seen anything like it about for a reasonable price? like in dunelm or somewhere? im in the west midlands in england. thanks
