My fiance and i are planning to have a wedding in the coming year or 2 but we are eloping and then having a 'reception dinner' the following day at a nice restaurant in our hometown. we both come from decent size families and wanted to have something to celebrate our marriage but we dont have much money and either do our parents so we decided on just a buffet style dinner at our favorite restraurant. however, im not sure how to word the invitations. i dont want it to look like we are having a 'reception' so to speak, but more of a dinner and i dont want people to think that they werent invited to a wedding, because there isnt one. i was thinking of something like: we invite you to our marriage celebration dinner....." does that sound okay? and we are paying for the dinner so i dont want it to look like the traditional " [parents] invite you to..." would you find it strange to get an invitation to a marriage celebration dinner? i feel by not saying wedding it wont make anyone feel like they werent invited to a wedding and it explains that its going to be more of a dinner than a full our reception.

I like the insertion of 'celebrate'....how about 'Come celebrate with us!.....Your Name and His Name were wed in a private ceremony on The Date and would like to invite you to celebrate our new marriage.' Then include the details of the reception/dinner. Marriage celebration dinner does sound a little contrived. I think I would find it strange and realize the obvious omission of the word wedding or reception.
