Whats the difference in carat size in terms of a diamond? how much bigger is a 3 carat diamond compared to say 2 carats or even 1.5 carats? Well, unless you have alot of money, you probably shouldn't buy a 2 or 3 carat solitaire ring. A quality 2 carat solitaire will cost you upwards of $25,000. Try browsing prices on http://www.bluenile.com. Also, research the 4 Cs. Well, it is almost 5, really, since cut and shape are different. Also, you should get an idea of what shapes she likes. Certain shapes/cuts are cheaper than others...round brilliant tends to be about 20% more expensive. It is also the most popular. Edit: Any time you have multiple stones, it is cheaper than one solitaire. For example, a 1 carat total weight ring will be much cheaper than a ring that the solitaire is 1 carat by itself . Same goes for 2 carat total weight.

Please put me out of my misery :) i'm not listing prices because they are somewhat similar and don't matter at this point. 1.38 - ideal - e - si2 - ex polish - vg symmetry - 62.4 depth - 59 table 1.20 - ideal - h - vs2 - ex polish - ex symmetry -62.2 depth - 58 table 1.27 - ideal - f - si1 - vg polish - ex symmetry - 60.5 depth - 60 table why is it so hard? because i really want to get the 1.38 carat. not only that, but the color is better and the polish is equal. the si clarity just scares me a bit...and the fact that the color goes down to h (for the middle one) doesn't help either. help me so i can sleep tonight.

If you really want the 1.38 carat, get it. When you get it away from the other stones, it will look completely perfect. Then choose a setting that fits your fiancee's style - classic, contemporary, simple, dramatic, whatever. It sounds like you have you mind made up. Go with your instincts.
