Ok...here's the situation: i bought a purse from a store in the mall on 6/1/07. it is now 7/11/07 and they still have not charged my debit card for the purchase...even though i used my card at the store and signed for the purchase. i want to know how long they can wait to charge me?

As long as they want but they may have lost your information somehow so contact them to make other arrangements to pay for your purse.

I purchased an item that was needed to be ordered and delivered. when i purchased it, they requested a deposit, for which i gave them my credit card. they stated they would charge the remainder after delivery to the same card on the account. seemed fair to me. it was purchased on august 11th, delivered on august 28th. the deposit has been charged, but the remainder has not. how long do they have before it is no longer chargeable?

I know that by law they have 30 days to issue you a credit. Ex: taking shoes back. Wait 30 days. I bet the charge will show up. If not charged after 90 days, I bet they have to forfeit that charge. I charged a waterpark fee in August and it just showed up on my credit card . I think they have 90 to make the charge.

Last november my credit card company started charging an annual fee that would be paid in january. i paid off my card in may, when i got my statement for june i had a -2.17 balance. well today when i went to look at my account for any fraudulent charges my annual fee was refunded on june 21st. i paid my annual fee in january why 6 months later refund it? i then went to the website and looked at the terms and it doesn't mention an annual fee anymore like it used to. i would of thought i would of received something in the mail. my first thought was they were closing my account, but now i'm not sure. i thought i would ask here first, if no one knew then to call them(long wait time and i always get someone from india)

It sounds like they lost a lot of business so they dropped the annual fee and refunded those already collected.

How long does a merchant have to wait before they can be sure that a credit card transaction will not be charged back? is there a certain period of time that a credit card company or consumer have to initiate a charge back after a credit card purchase is made? thanks:)

My credit card statements (V-MC-Dis-AmEX) all say just 30 days to dispute charges. However when the CC companies file a dispute they are supposed to contact the merchant directly regarding the dispute. For example, if the consumer claims they never ask for the service you could show the CC company where they did, etc. They only time they actually charge back is when the merchant agrees to it OR that the CC believes the merchant didn't provide adequate services and that the consumer is correct in the dispute.

I have recently got several unauthorized charges on my wells fargo credit card. i report wells fargo within 24 hours after the unauthorized transactions were made. the old card was cancelled and i got a new one from them. the charges totaled us$467.23 with large portion of them made at safeway store. i have submitted and signed the declaration of fraud to wells fargo and they provide me with provisional credit. they said that if the claim is denied, those credits will be reversed. on the other hand, the the claim is accepted, i won't receive any further communication. at this moment, i don't know how long the process is gonna take. would anyone give me some rough estimate of the length of time for the claim to be closed? although $467.23 is something i can afford, however, it sounds very unreasonable to pay for something that i never purchased. i really wanna know how long i should be waiting because it does affect me psychologically if i had to worry about the fraud claim endlessly......

Generally when purchases are made in another state or county on your credit card, they are usually resolved very quickly. However, when purchases are made close to home, they want to make 100% sure that the purchases are not made by someone who is a relative or friend that you authorized or knew was using your credit card.

Long story short- it's an old dept of my husbands...he had a brain tumor and was unable to pay his bills at one point in his life- and the credit company harassed him and he just stopped paying them. when i got a hold of it- his charges were 10 grand and the company wanted another 10 grand in interest, i had him talk to a lawyer and the guy told him see if you can wait out the 7 years or until they sue. well, now they are suing- he is talking to a lawyer today but i am a wreck. what happens? they now want like 24,0000 grand!! do these thing commonly get settled? like they will take 10 for 24? we tried to settle it our-self and the company was very nasty with us. and they did a bunch of illegally things like call his mother and his sister and harrharassm as well! that should be harass them as well. (spell check is wicked on this thing.)

You need to find out your states statute of limitations on seeking court action to collect on a debt. You can locate your states SOL at the following web site http://www.bcsalliance.com/statute_of_limitations_on_debt.html (credit cards are considered open accounts) If this debt is time barred (past that state SOL) then they can do nothing but ask that you pay. They can not sue you in court. DO NOT admit to them, or pay anything as this would reset the SOL on this debt. Has the debt been sold to a collections agency? If so then there are regulations against certain collection practices such as contacting relatives other then to verify his address, they are not allowed to state they are calling to collect on a debt. This falls under the FDCPA. If it is not time barred, then you should try and negotiate a settlement but start with a real low offer. I have a disputed charge that i want reversed or charged back from my credit card to a company where i did not receive the services. i've waited 2 months for that company to resolve this and give me my money back. they still have not. so i tried going through my credit card company to dispute the charge. now they tell me it will be 90 days for an investigation. why can't they just take my word for it and credit the money back to my card? why does this take so long, i mean it will be 5 months total?

Heh! Nobody wants to give money back. They sure like taking it though. Your credit card company probably will NOT take that long but gives you the outside time frame. It's a PIA but you will eventually get your money back. You can always go to that business's web site and give them poor rating.

I've had perfect credit all my life. i've never missed a payment, and usually pay early and pay more than the minimum. now, i have become unable to work, and have applied for disability. i have now missed 2 payments. i voluntarily put a stop on my credit cards so that no more charges would be made on them, and called the companies to see what i could do about the missed payments. now, you would think that they would at least be kind about the situation, but heck no. they have been downright nasty with me, and i can't understand this. i have an appointment with a local non-profit debt management organization. other than this, what can i do? and just what do the companies expect from me? i do not even care if it hurts my credit. i accept the reality that my hardship will necessarily hurt my credit. it's unfortunate, but i accept this totally. it was my own bad planning to run up credit card bills and not consider that i may not be able to work in the future. i accept responsibility for all this, and want to do what i can, but i'm getting absolutely no cooperation from them at all. now they are calling me every single day, and each day i kindly tell them the same thing. they say they have documented our conversation, but then they continue to call each day. why are they doing that? don't they know you can't get blood from a turnip? and half the time, they call me, and immediately i am asked by an automated voice to hold. (they call me and i have to hold? huh?) then after i wait for a long time, i get this beeping like they've hung up on me. what the heck?! i would call back, but the number is not a toll-free call and i simply can't afford to wait for a long time on hold with a long-distance call. bedford - i've never heard of such a thing. do you mean that credit card companies offer some kind of insurance in the case of disability? if so, it was sure never made known to me.

First of all, it's just business. It's not about kindness, but a result for the people who have to contact you or when you contact them. Part of the job and let's face it, everyone is human and thus judgmental when it comes to money management. Forget the blood from a turnip idea; that's just an attitude you cannot emotionally afford right now. Someone else can say it, but they don't have the problem you do. Although you won't benefit from being down on yourself, you must face reality. Also, remember, this most likely is temporary and you are NOT the only one who is hurting right now. Most everyone has a financial problem these days and most don't have rich uncles either, just like you don't. You are going to be ok but it is time to be serious. as well. When a company is not being paid and starts to call you, it's just an office full of associates completing their daily call assignments, It's not like you get an assigned counselor or similar. Each one takes a few notes. not good ones in most cases, and when you are handed off a day later, it's just another call that has to be made by whomever gets your account record. If it's an emotional strain that will keep you from getting better, it might be a good idea to avoid speaking to them until you have a better sense of your plan to pay them. Don't see it as running from them as they will label you that anyway; be honest with yourself. You need to get better, you need to look for any benefits that are available to you, and you need to do the best you can to manage and distribute your resources carefully. Take care of housing costs first, then work on lowering your food costs; accept a meal when offered with appreciation and offer to do something in return when you are better. You may need to make tough decisions regarding your other expenses, ie, cable, cell phone plan, gasoline consumption. Your social life expenses will need to be curtailed. Try to pay some on your bills as you can and even though it's not earning you any points with the creditor, encourage yourself that you are doing the right thing. Work on it and don't give up!
