I hit my head about 10 hours on the side of a desk while painting, i felt dizzy after it happened and put ice on it for awhile. the bump on my head is still really tender and i have a major headache, also everytime i get the ice off my bump, i feel extremely hot. is it safe for me to sleep now or should i stay awake?

My 4 month old fell off the bed and hit her head, my boyfriend and his mother say she can't go to sleep for an hour, but when i was in high school i took med classes and learned it doesn't matter, that you can go to sleep....is there any doctor's on here that can confirm a true and accurate answer????????

As long as she's not vomitting and being extra fussy I think she's fine to go to sleep. Just wake her up in an hour quickly to make sure she responds (wakes up). Then let her go back to sleep. If she does wake up, wake her up every 2-3 hours and she should be fine. (also depends on how hard she hit her head) if it was a small bump just keep an eye on her. If it was pretty hard, I'd do what I said.

I bumped my head on sunday. now it's wednesday and, though my head doesn't hurt, the place where i bumped it has stayed slightly sensitive to touch (which means i have to really press to feel it). i sleep well, haven't had abnormal headaches, my pupils are equal and, to my best knowledge, respond to light. neither have i had any nausea. is this normal?

You bruised your head of course it's sensitive but that means your body is healing itself don't worry about it.

My 9 month old daughter hit her head (sounded like it hit hard) on the hardwood floor (she was sitting up and tipped over) she didnt cry, there isn't a bump but only a red spot. she seemed normal after but i heard that it's not good to go to bed right after. she is extremely tired and cranky. should i put her to bed?

That she cried straight away & is acting normal is good. You need to be looking for signs of concussion,check: both pupils equal in size & react evenly to light (both shrink expand to same size), vomiting within 3 hrs of fall. If she is sleepy let her sleep our bodies heal best then. This was the advise given to us when our then 5yo dropped his little brother. I phoned our GP who advised the above. She explained that their heads are still very supple at this age & despite common oppinion otherwise quite resilient. The soft spot is on the top of the head & really isn't as soft as every Mum fears, its cartilage like an ear so is more flexible/pliable that soft. If you go to the ER expect minimum of 4 hours observation for the above concussion symptoms.

I bumped on my head... i would say...15-20 minutes ago? i don't know if i bumped on it light or hard, i don't know which one would be light and which one would be hard... i'm just scared ;_; it was like a normal bumped, and i felt fine afterwards. right now, i can feel a bump on the back of my head and light burning sensations....do you think i will be fine? should i sleep(i should be sleeping now)? how long should i watch the bump? i think i'm going paranoid, what should i do? :(

From the description you gave I'd say that you are going to be fine. The bump should go down in a couple of hours and you should be none the worse for wear. Go to the ER if you have dizziness that lasts more than momentarily or black spots in front of your eyes. The best thing to do right now would be to relax, calm down, and rest for a while. The pain shouldn't last long. Hope you feel better

My almost 8 year old son banged his head on the headboard just before bedtime. he hit it pretty hard. how long should i keep him awake afterwards, to make sure he is ok? we checked him out there appears to be no lump. we applied ice to it. it's now been almost an hour since it happened and he says the spot where he hit it is sore. it seems sensitive to the touch. there still appers to be no lump or bruise, but it's hard to tell for sure because of his hair. there has been no bleeding. we checked his "memory" by asking him simple and sometimes trick questions, which he always answered right. we checked his pupils, and they react to light as they should. if we go in to check on him every 2-3 hours, is it ok to let him go to sleep within an hour of it happening? or should we keep him awake longer?

He seems okay, but I'd take him to the ER just to make sure he doesn't have a concussion or anything else.

I hit my head on a brick and now i have a big big bump and i tryed to go to sleep but my mom said wait a little bit or i might go into a coma and die how many hours or minutes do i wait untill i can go to sleep i need a serious answer plz

That's an old wife's tale about going to sleep and never waking up. If you have a severe head injury you should get woken every hour or two, and asked simple questions like " what is your name?" If you have difficulty answering than obviously somethings not quite right in your brain. Are you showing signs of a concussion? Dizziness, loss of balance. headache, ringing in the ears, slurred speech, nausea or vomiting? If none of those, put ice on your bump, and go to bed.

My 8month old niece is learning to walk and she pulls up on everything, she pulled up on the entertainment system while i was looking for her pacifier... i didnt leav her unattended we were in the same room i had my back turned for maybe a se, but anyway she fell and bumped her head on the floor, im really worried, because shes sleepy and im afraid to let her go to sleep, when is it safe for me to allow her to sleep?

im sure its fine. did you notice blood? uneaven dilation of the eyes? blood from nose or ears? did she throw up more than twice? did she get sleepy in the 5 min after? if no to these than it is ok. just keep an eye on her for a bit while she sleeps. my son hits his head a lot. they can take more than you think. relax, it happens alot.

So i bang my head against my pillow to sleep but not like banging it so hard like when you want to die. so to make it clearer, before i fall asleep i just lay there on my belly and my hands wrapped around my pillow. then i just bump/bang my head for a couple minutes then i fall asleep. i been doing this ever since i was 4. also, it is like a drug, if i'm sleeping over at somebody's house and i obviously don't want to bang my head, i get this urge and it takes longer for me to sleep. almost like a withdrawal but not as bad. i just wanted to know why do i do this to sleep and is it normal?

It's normal, but now i just make out with my pillow. Be glad you don't grind your teeth at night. My bro does and it freaks me out. You gotta get comfortable somehow.
