Whats the difference in carat size in terms of a diamond? how much bigger is a 3 carat diamond compared to say 2 carats or even 1.5 carats? Well, unless you have alot of money, you probably shouldn't buy a 2 or 3 carat solitaire ring. A quality 2 carat solitaire will cost you upwards of $25,000. Try browsing prices on http://www.bluenile.com. Also, research the 4 Cs. Well, it is almost 5, really, since cut and shape are different. Also, you should get an idea of what shapes she likes. Certain shapes/cuts are cheaper than others...round brilliant tends to be about 20% more expensive. It is also the most popular. Edit: Any time you have multiple stones, it is cheaper than one solitaire. For example, a 1 carat total weight ring will be much cheaper than a ring that the solitaire is 1 carat by itself.
