about 500 calories is considered starvation. i`ve done it...not fun

I'm 5'1" and am currently watching my weight. i eat healthy - lotsa fruits, some veggies, whole grains, ect.. will my body think i'm starving if i only eat 1,100? i only wanna lose 3 pounds before christmas. i also exercise and lift weights a few days a week.

No 1100 calories a day wouldn't be considered starvation. Counting calories is the best method for lasting weight loss but it's not all that accurate so you'd probably be getting a bit more than that anyway. You need to jog for 30 to 40 minutes everyday. You'll lose the 3 pounds in 3 weeks or less if you don't cheat...no lower than 1100 though ok? You'll start losing precious muscle tissue and mess things up....

It all depends on your Basal Metabollic Rate, or BMR. You can find that by using any search engine and typing in BMR Calculator. That number is the amount of calories your body requires to simply survive...lying in bed awake all day (you burn more calories sleeping than lying down awake). Most people have that number in the 1300's...the younger you are, the higher it is, and the more calories you can consume. To actually starve yourself...you would have to be well under that number for a long period of time. Starvation takes place once your body has used up all of your stored resources (fat, water, vitamins, proteins) and needs more food to survive, so you can't really put a specific number on it.

Hi Kiara, I don't think you are looking for a scientific health and nutrition lecture, you are just wanting to know whether that you are doing is healthy yeah? 1200 calories is an approximate amount of food that should come close to providing a potentially balanced diet for most people. It is also a reasonable amount of food that can be eaten without getting hungry often or putting on weight. Because y are 15 you would be better off eating more to give your body the opportunity to grow to it's full potential. You could easily eat 1400 calories and not gain weight, even more if you exercise regularly. The potential benifits are bigger boobs, taller, better body function, better skin, and better overall health. Dieting is for people that need to lose weight, you don't have that need so get the health benifits of good healthy eating.

Yet are still keeping full and not hungry? like if i eat like 6 wasa crackers (30 cal a piece)... raw veggies... egg beaters,,, low cal whole grain toast... if it keeps me full but is 100 cal or less, is that ok for my body? 1000**** typo

No, it is not smart to go under 1500 cal a day. If you eat 1500 cal and exercise at least 4 times a week you will lose weight and reduce your % of body fat. By going down to 1000 calories your bodies fight or flight response will cause your metabolism to only require 1000 a day . No one can live on 1000 cal for long periods of time., so when you begin eating more your body will only utilise the 1000 cal it is accustom to and store the rest as body fat. For example, you ate 1000 cal for 5 weeks and lost weight, now you are happy and begin to eat 1500-1800 a day, your body will use 1000, store the additional 500-800 calories as fat causing you to now gain 1-2 pounds per week. By exercising you will increase your metabolism and your caloric requirements will go up just to maintain your weight, so by exercising and eating a well balanced meal of about 1500 calories you should lose some weight but more importantly your clothing size will go down, this is what you need to look for NOT the scale but your clothing size.

I am eating but only way less, less than 1/2 of what i used to eat and i have cut out soda to water. example meals: breakfast: 300 calories lunch: 300 calories dinner: 300 calories

try fitting in a 100-300 calorie snack.

I'm trying to lose weight and only eating veggies and fruit in order to achieve that. i have heard that eat under 1000 calories a day puts your body into starvation mode, however i eat barely 1000 calories a day myself and don't feel hungry. i just fill myself up with tons of veggies with very low calories that fill me up but don't have anything bad in them. is that okay? i know i'm not meeting my requirements, but i don't feel as though i am starving myself. please help! my daily calorie intake when eating only fruits and veggies (and once in a while a little bit of egg whites for protein) is around 750-850 a day. also, i work out every morning and burn around 500-650 calories daily i'm 5'4 and 125 pounds currently hoping to lose 15 pounds

Well based on your height and weight (I'm also assuming your a girl) eating under 1000 calories isn't something that you should be doing EVERY day, but if say a few times a week you eat under 1000 calories it will not hurt you. You should be aiming for around 1200 - 1400 calories a day based on your height and weight to lose fat, especially considering that your working out every morning and burning 500 - 650 calories. You should also definitely be eating more protein than you actually are. I'd make sure you eat egg whites (I'm assuming that's what you like since you mentioned them) every day. If you add the egg whites in daily it should bump your calories up to around the 1200 - 1400 range. To be honest, the whole "starvation mode" thing may just be a myth. I've heard it mentioned a lot before but I'm not sure if there have ever been any scientific studies done to prove or disprove it. I know a lot of people who have lost weight eating a super low calorie diet without there body going into "starvation mode".
