| I've had the piercing for a
month and 1/2 now, and i've
seen a doctor, and he didn't
even know what to do about it.
i'm a bit scared t.t, but the
piercing has these little balls
that are swollen under my skin on
the 1 side of it and my belly
button itself is a bit puffy.
around the holes are red as all get
out and it sings like hell. is this
normal?? will the little balls
under my skin go away once it heals
100% after 4-6 months is up?? since
day 1 i've been treating this
thing wrong because i was
instructed to use iodine to clean
it and had an allergic reaction to
it. i was told however, that the
balls are likely to be a cyst or a
bacterial pocket since yellowish
puss has come out of it, but
it's quite hard of a ball.
anyone know wtf is wrong with me
'cause every doctor i talk to
and piercer around here
doesn't seem to know, i
figured maybe sum1 else might.
i've been doing sea salt
soaks, and putting on this anti
bacterial/-biotic on it called
mupirocin. he also took a stab at
putting me on an anti-biotic
orally. is this okay? i was told to
never use an anti-biotic.
advice is more than welcomed. was
hoping i could get some from people
who've had the similar problem
or same thing going on.
it doesn't fit the description
of an abscess, there are no pink
bumps on the outside. it just feels
like some guy with a big thumb is
pushing on the inside my belly
outwards :( this things been threw
war and back, i just wanna know if
it's gunna be okay. every
piercer has told me not to take it
out though, 'cause it could
cause further problems by sealing
the infection inside.
things have been clearing up
nicely, i still feel some bumps but
the treatment isn't complete
yet. the trick of the matter was to
know how to alternate the ointment
treatments my doctor had written me
between sea salt soaks. i took the
oral antibiotics too which i felt
helped more than anything. my daily
routine was sea salt soaks x2,
ointment, then another sea salt
soak x2 and let it breathe for the
night. and rinse and repeat- i did
frequent sea salt soaks every time
it felt irritated. i also cleaned
around the area day and night when
i showered with dial. don't
try and get it in the piercing
though. i hope this post helps
allot of people in the
future-'cause i got screwed
and my lil belly went threw war
before it started to heal right.
note: when getting pierced, make
sure they do internal threading-i
got external which was the old
fashioned way and hurt like hell
and ended up infected. also, get a
bar-bell jewelry and not a hoop
ring. idc what people tell
you-it's bad to get a hoop
the hoop also created some
scar-tissue, and caught on things
left and right-between me jacket
and my cats it was hell till i got
a bar-bell banana in it (which was
after 4weeks). i'll agree that
the hoop made it easier to
clean-but how often it caught on
things wasn't worth the
trouble...or the pain when it
caught on things t.t. i had to
check a few times to see if it was
bleeding after-lol. as far as
cleaning to all and anyone sea
salt, sea salt, sea salt- and as
warm as you can stand it and let it
soak for at least 5-10 mins. (i do
15 mins. to be careful and positive
i'm getting it clean.) do this
at least 2 times a day, extra soaks
will only help more and not hurt,
not to mention they feel good. wear
loose clothing, and do not touch
it. clean around the area when
showering with dial, if the
piercing gets soap in it flush it
to make sure the soap gets out-no
need to spaz. :)
if it for any reason it becomes
infected or you think it may be,
visit your doctor asap and use the
treatment he perscribes which will
usually be an anti-biotic orally.
sometimes, they'll give you an
ointment like i was along with an
oral anti-biotic. if this is true-
treat it like as if it we're
cut anywhere else on your body-it
needs time to breathe between
treatments or else it won't
heal. be sure to also sea salt soak
it in between treatments, and
don't glop on the
ointment-just lightly coat it
around the area and on the
jewelry's post itself. this
should be the only time you touch
it, and do not spin the bar bell
threw the hole just leave it be. i
have also found that vitamin c
(1,000mg) and zinc (60mg) helped
with the healing process well along
with good sleep and light exercise.
avoid rough physical activity that
will 'cause it pain, a light
jog or walking a few of blocks a
day is okay and good. ;d
as for the scaring- after talking
to so many piercers locally, and
seeing my doctor- i found that emu
oil helped a crap load in that area
as well. yes- that's right-
that crazy lookin bird in australia
help's scaring. i have still
yet to find another place to buy it
than my local piercer, but it has
helped allot with the scaring, and
i'd tell anyone with
scar's period to just use it.
it was $5.00 for my tiny little
6c.c bottle if that gives you any
idea on price range. you should
only need a drop though here or
there, i'd say to check your
local vitamin shops to see if they
have what your looking for, at
least that's on my list of
things yet to do.
as for the measurements on the sea
salt soaks; make sure you clean
your cups you use with an anti-bac
soap, take about 5 oz. of spring
water-( i use spring water
'cause of the natural minerals
in it promote healing and a
soothing comfort. i also have a
pyrex measuring cup i use for
this-) and add about 1/8 teaspoon
of sea salt and pop your measuring
cup in the microwave for about
17mins. (or more if desired) let it
cool if you feel the waters too hot
for you and poor the warm sea salt
solution into a tiny juice glass
(or shot glass if your a drinker
:p) and stick it over your belly
for as long as i've said and
your good to go! lay flat on your
back with the cup on your tummy if
you can for the full 5-10mins.-or
15mins. - as hot as you can stand -
to the salt.
if you have trouble with the glass
method i would say to use a
washcloth and soak it in the
solution and lay it on your tummy.
paper towel's and cotton balls
have fiber's that can get
caught in the piercing and make it
infected or irritated. i
wouldn't use q-tips either
'cause of this, just make sure
your hands are clean and finger
nails when cleaning. i myself had
problems with the q-tips.
for people who can't find emu
oil:
i've also been told that i
could use tea tree oil-this can be
a soothing liquid that cools and
refreshes an irritated piercing.
use only high quality tea tree oil
that has been diluted with
distilled water or spring water. i
myself have not tried it yet
'cause my piercer has told me
it can be too harsh for a anti-bac
treatment but have heard that it
works wonders.
note: more salt is not better, it
can irritate it even more.
i would also like to close saying
to not use iodine-i did-found out i
was allergic-caused even more hell.
it kills the infection but i
wouldn't really use it unless
its really bad and you know you
have no allergy to it. i can eat
iodized salt-however, topically it
burns and i get a rash. so, be sure
your not. don't end up like
alice <3. :( :p
this guide is for not just navels
but all body piercings as well.
this is what i've learned and
hope it helps others, 'cause
honestly i haven't found the
internet nor this site to helpful
on this i had to go to several
different piercers and my doctor-
had to go threw trial and error as
well with all these things- and
trust me this is the 100% best
guide anyone could give you.
here's to you and a happy
healing.:d
If you put too much topical antibiotics, it stops air from getting at it, thus suffocating the piercing. So make sure you're not putting on too much. Only the layer that's touching the skin does anything anyways.
If I were you I'd stop putting on the antibiotics. Take the antibiotics orally like the doctor suggested... It couldn't hurt.
Sounds infected to me. Is the area hot?
Could be an abscess, maybe.
